We are seeking a dedicated individual to fill a vital role within our School, providing essential support to facilitate cultural awareness in Aboriginal research and academia. This successful applicant will lead our school's Indigenous Cultures and Health Behaviours unit which is taken by all commencing students in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

The School of Population Health has a strong reputation for supporting Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander students within the Faculty of Health Sciences , reflecting our strong commitment to equity, inclusion, and Indigenous student success. We are seeking an Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander academic who is passionate about fostering culturally safe learning environments and supporting students throughout their educational journey.

In this role, you will :

Lead the review and development of curricula and assessments for our 'Indigenous Cultures and Health Behaviours' unit. Deliver high-quality teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In collaboration with our School's Indigenous and non-Indigenous staff, contribute to Indigenising our curricula, embedding Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander perspectives, ways of knowing, being and doing into our teaching practices. Provide mentorship and guidance to both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students. Support cultural orientation and safety initiatives within the School ensuring adherence to high standards of behaviour and knowledge. Engage in research activities, either independently or as a leader.

The School of Population Health offers a wide range of health-related disciplines, including Psychology, Nutrition and Dietetics, Health Economics and Data Analytics, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, and Health Promotion.

We are looking for a candidate with a background in any of these areas who can contribute meaningfully to our teaching and learning activities. A developing or established research profile relevant to your discipline will be highly regarded.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Qualifications And Education

A relevant qualification, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and / or education / training. A doctoral qualification is required for appointment at higher academic levels.

Indigenous Knowledge and Community Engagement

Strong understanding of the health issues facing Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander communities, including broader social determinants of health. Demonstrated experience engaging with Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander communities, with cultural sensitivity and awareness of the complexities and challenges that may arise.

Teaching and Curriculum Development

Proven high-level teaching skills, including a reflective and student-centred approach to learning and teaching. Experience in curriculum design, unit or course coordination, and contributions to the scholarship of teaching and learning. Ability to contribute to the Indigenisation of curriculum and promote culturally safe and inclusive teaching practices.

Research and Academic Output

A track record of research outputs or creative works published in high-quality, peer-reviewed academic journals or equivalent outlets, relevant to the discipline and appointment level. Evidence of an established or emerging research profile, including success in securing research funding or competitive grants. At earlier career stages, a demonstrated trajectory toward research excellence is expected.

Leadership and Collaboration

Demonstrated leadership capabilities in teaching or research, with the ability to mentor junior colleagues and supervise research students. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to foster a collegial and inclusive working environment and interact respectfully across diverse cultural contexts.
