With a proven track record of delivering transformative connectivity, SUBCO owns and operates critical submarine cable assets linking Australia to Asia, the Middle East, and beyond. Building on this foundation, a new 5,000 km domestic cable system - connecting emerging digital hubs across Australia - is set to go live in 2026, marking a major milestone in SUBCO’s evolution.

As demand for high-capacity, resilient infrastructure accelerates, SUBCO is entering a strategic growth phase of major scale up, actively pursuing global opportunities to deliver innovative connectivity solutions that meet the needs of cloud, content, and AI-driven enterprises.

We are on the hunt for a Head of Networks to lead the charge in building and scaling world-class infrastructure during this defining phase of growth.

This position can be based in Brisbane or Melbourne

About the Role

As Head of Networks, you will play a critical role in procuring, developing, maintaining, and operationalising SUBCO’s subsea and terrestrial network assets.

Role Responsibilities

Network Engineering, Network Operations Planning and Design & Delivery

Lead the procurement, design, engineering, testing, and deployment of terrestrial and subsea infrastructure in line with technology roadmaps and commercial objectives.

Ensure business and customer requirements are translated into buildable network solutions

Oversee technical strategy and governance, including supplier selection, procurement, and integration of network hardware and software.

Ensure GIS and spatial systems and data are effectively integrated to support network planning and asset management.

Implement a design, planning and engineering governance structure that can scale

Oversee the development of innovative solutions to improve the reliability, performance, and longevity of subsea assets.

Provide technical input on supply agreements and commercial negotiations as required

NetOps and Service Delivery

Oversee the NetOps function to ensure high availability, resilience, and performance

Oversee the service delivery function for all SUBCO’s customers

Oversee and track the provisioning process to ensure seamless and reliable service delivery

Ensure network security, compliance, and regulatory requirements are met and maintained.

Provide oversight on fault management, troubleshooting, and proactive maintenance of network infrastructure.

Process Optimisation & Continuous Improvement

Establish a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring network processes are efficient, scalable, and cost-effective.

Identify inefficiencies and risks in current network operations and implement corrective actions.

Leverage automation, analytics and data to enhance decision-making and operational workflows.

Ensure network operations and design decisions enhance customer experience, reliability, and service quality.

Act as a key technical advisor, ensuring the business remains competitive in subsea cable services.

Drive the industry towards optimal collective outcomes by collaborating with peers, partners, and regulators.

Lead and influence industry standards through thought leadership, innovation, and sharing of best practices.

Anticipate and embrace emerging technologies to evolve internal capability, spark innovation, and shape the future of the industry.

Leadership & Culture

Build, lead and inspire a cohesive, high-performing team

Provide guidance and mentorship to the team, with a focus on developing future leaders and maintaining a high standard of excellence.

Work collaboratively to support workforce planning and capability development

About You

Deep knowledge of subsea cable networks and associated network design and operations

Proven network engineering experience used to maintain subsea networks

In depth knowledge of available transmission equipment supplier portfolios

Production network situational awareness and ability to define and implement immediate appropriate operational asset interventions

Ability to manage both upstream and downstream project stakeholders

Understanding of GIS functions, network asset mapping and systems

Proven track record of building and leading high-performing teams

Demonstrated ability to drive operational excellence, continual improvement, cost efficiency, and service quality

Proven track record of delivering business projects on time and at a high standard
