As the Director, Legal and Freedom of Information, your primary objective is to manage a high performing Legal Services team responsible for the Agency's legal, information release functions, as well as supporting law reform and providing expert legal and Freedom of Information (FOI) advice.
Your key duties will include providing high-level leadership, ensuring the delivery of high-quality advice on a range of complex and highly sensitive legal matters, FOI requests and supporting the Agency's legislative reform priorities. In addition, you will manage complex outsourced legal matters, including the preparation of Cabinet, CEO, ministerial briefings and legal briefs. You will also ensure legal risks are identified and addressed and advance the capability of the Agency and service providers to enhance the client experience and improve the lives of Territorians.
To meet the challenges of this complex role it is essential you are eligible to practice as a legal practitioner with admission to the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory, the High Court of Australia, or the Supreme Court of a State or Territory of Australia. Proven leadership supported by exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to analyse and interpret legislation is essential.
Experience practicing in commercial, tenancy and property law contexts will be well received.
