Working in the Environment Data and Analysis Branch you will be part of a team that provides geospatial capability and supports the Department through the delivery of spatial data and analysis for evidence-based policy and decision making. There are several exciting opportunities across the Branch.
The JobWe are looking for several dynamic, highly motivated geospatial analysts at an APS6 level, who will, as part of a multi-disciplinary team :
Provide leadership and project management across :the creation and analysis of environmental geospatial information using a range of sources to produce consistent authoritative national environmental data products.advice and oversight on geospatial infrastructure to deliver authoritative environmental information to a range of internal and external users andprovide project leadership and well-developed communication skills to develop environmental data and tools that support decision making and reporting, with a focus on stakeholder engagement to understand key development needs.Provide expertise to the team in the management of geospatial data, including metadata management, and publishing and sharing data appropriately.Leverage geospatial capabilities to design and implement solutions, including the production of mapping products to cartographic standards, to support policy development, decision making and reporting.Investigate innovative technical approaches to improve the production of environmental data and tools.Proactively maintain positive working relationships with data providers and stakeholders.Please notethat this recruitment process is advertised as both an ongoing and non-ongoing position. If an offer of non-ongoing employment is made, the successful applicant would be employed for an initial period of 12 months with the possibility of extension up to a maximum period of 3 years in total. Should a non-ongoing position become ongoing then the merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may be used to fill the vacancy on an ongoing basis.Skills and Capabilities_Demonstrated understanding of geospatial data and experience using GIS software and systems, including services, databases and tools (e.g., ESRI suite, FME, Python, SQL etc).Strong conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to assess complex information and contribute to the design and development of innovative, sustainable solutions.Capable of working under limited direction to solve problems and deliver high quality geospatial products and services.Project management and organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise workloads and take responsibility to deliver projects to completion.Demonstrated ability to work within teams and foster collaboration, and the ability to develop productive working relationships with a range of stakeholders.Well-developed workplace communication skills - oral, written and presentation - including the ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders, convey clear information to nontechnical audiences and capture / define user needs.Knowledge and experience_Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the production, manipulation and management of datasets and products using geospatial software (preferably ESRI suite and / or FME)Understand the development life cycle of data products, from data collation and analysis to documentation, metadata and publishing.Ability to provide administrative support for governance processes and outcomes-oriented project management to generate improved environmental data and tools for decision making and reporting.Knowledge and / or experience in one or more of the following will be an advantage :
Production, through compilation, of modelling and analysis, environmental geospatial data products using a range of environmental datasets.Application of innovative approaches to design and development of decision support tools as well as optimise and automate existing solutions.Experience using Web GIS (e.g., ArcGIS Enterprise or ArcGIS Online) for data man
