The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) is an independent statutory authority established by the Australian Government to maintain an impartial and independent electoral system for eligible voters through active electoral roll management, efficient delivery of polling services, and targeted education and public awareness programs.
The AEC values and commitments are an essential component of our operating environment and frame how AEC staff work. The AEC's focus is on electoral integrity through the values of quality, agility and professionalism.
You will join a team of 151 team leaders across the country that ensures the proper conduct of events and upholds the Electoral Integrity Framework. You will work across a diverse and dispersed network, working closely with our State Office, National Office and the other States and Territories.
The Team Leader is responsible for the leadership and management of staff within their designated team / office and delivering a public facing service as required. You report to an Assistant Director based in the Adelaide CBD and will typically oversee a team of around 2 to 10 staff, however, when an election is announced, this team size increases rapidly to deliver this significant logístical event, which involves managing high risk and large-scale projects with increased pressure, media, public scrutiny and short timeframes, and multiple interdependent logístical activities.
At the AEC you will develop strong connections with colleagues and supportive networks, as we all work to deliver an impartial and independent electoral system with high integrity.
The AEC is seeking agile, energetic, self-motivated, and results-driven professionals to lead and manage divisional election planning, delivery, and evaluation.
The Team Leader manages the daily operations of the divisional work unit, including leading, managing, and developing a team of staff to deliver electoral roll management, undertaking community engagement, and project management of election activities. You will join the leadership team committed to learning and self-development and responsible for building technical capability and fostering the career development of its people.
Ideally, you are a self-starter able to work under pressure, and independently under limited guidance but in accordance with strict processes, and comfortable working in a team environment.
During the preparation phase of the electoral cycle, you will lead your team in preparing towards the next federal event including the management of supporting all aspects of election project delivery. You will be responsible for the preparation of complex operational delivery plans, reports, and statistical analysis to ensure the delivery of a successful election event.
You will contribute to the development of team objectives for short term tasks and strategic planning for longer-term initiatives, including setting priorities for the work area, maintaining team cohesion, and ensuring quality of outputs for the work area.
During the election delivery phase, your local workforce responsibilities increase, and you will be responsible for the overall supervision of our temporary election staff, using your leadership skills to support the expanding workforce requirements seamlessly and efficiently.
