  • Salary Academic Level B ($115,303 - $136,925) + 17% super
  • Based at the City campus, but may be required to travel to other University campuses

About the Role

We are seeking an academic to contribute to the School's Discipline of Interaction, Technology and Information in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), with a focus on responsible computing. The successful candidate will have an interest in online safety, including areas such as social media, technology-facilitated abuse, and AI safety, and experience working with minoritised groups (e.g., women, gender-diverse people, people with disabilities, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, and young people).

The role requires the ability to translate research into actionable design outcomes. Experience with co-design and participatory methods is desirable.

The Lecturer will contribute to teaching and research within their field, delivering across undergraduate and postgraduate programs while maintaining an active research profile. They will also build partnerships with academic, industry, and professional communities, and work collaboratively with colleagues. Course coordination may be required.

About You

To be successful for this position, you will have:

  • Demonstrated research track record in a human computer interaction topic related to responsible computing, broadly defined. Preference will be given to applicants with an interest in online safety. Track record should include research outputs in high quality venues.
  • Experience in participatory HCI methods, and translating findings into design recommendations
  • Experience in supervising higher degree by research candidates to maximise research performance.
  • Demonstrated commitment to principles of equity, diversity and inclusion in teaching and research.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate, prepare, and deliver large courses at undergraduate and post-graduate levels relevant to current School of Computing Technologies programs, including high quality curriculum materials and ability to implement innovative approaches to student-centred learning and quality improvement.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to financial, governance and quality management systems within a university.
  • Demonstrated high level of collegiality, including supporting development of junior team members, ability to problem solve as part of a team and ability to work well with diverse personalities and perspectives.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills including ability to present research findings to a variety of academic and non-academic audiences in both written and verbal form, and to communicate persuasively with a variety of stakeholders.

Qualifications

Mandatory: PhD or equivalent in relevant field; right to work in Australia.
