About the Business Unit
Corrections Victoria Intelligence Service (CVIS) is the overarching intelligence service for Corrections Victoria (CV) and its stakeholders. CVIS consists of the primary intelligence unit, the Corrections Victoria Intelligence Unit (CVIU), and localised prison intelligence units at public and private prison facilities in Victoria.
About the Role
The Intelligence Analyst works within the CVIU, providing operational support for all intelligence‑related matters conducted by the unit, reporting to an Intelligence Manager, and contributing to tactical, operational and strategic intelligence functions. The analyst delivers intelligence services to decision makers across CV and its stakeholders, supporting the security and good order of correctional facilities and the effective management of offenders in the community. Duties include producing intelligence to identify and prevent violence, contraband introduction, serious incidents or unrest, and assisting in the safe management of offenders.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect, collate, record, analyse and disseminate intelligence information to authorised parties in a timely manner to inform decisions made by CV and its stakeholders, primarily in relation to offenders in the community or prisoners.
- Prepare intelligence reports and briefings for senior management, advising on the results of intelligence gathering, identifying and evaluating emerging threats, opportunities, patterns and trends affecting the security of correctional facilities or offender management.
- Support CV management, staff and external agencies by assisting in the development and planning of intelligence‑led operations.
- Provide support in the development of systems to facilitate more effective and efficient information collection, recording, analysis and dissemination of intelligence information within CV and to stakeholders.
- Provide technical support and tactical advice to managers, including systems expertise, and manage, guide and assist other staff.
About You
To be successful:
- Knowledge of the CV system and key issues impacting the system.
- Knowledge of contemporary principles and practices that apply to intelligence functions within the criminal justice system and across intelligence agencies is highly desirable.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, information management systems, and other data‑managing technologies is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of the Corrections Act 1986, Corrections Regulations 1998 and the Serious Offenders Act 2018.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Relevant tertiary qualifications or thematic knowledge.
- Existing Negative Vetting Level 1 Security Clearance, or must obtain within six months of employment (refer to Australian Government Security Vetting Agency requirements).
- Australian citizenship is highly desirable.
- Staff must be trained to CVIS Introduction to Analysis level within six months of employment (internally available course).
- Working knowledge of the Centurion Intelligence System, Ejustice, PIMS, Microsoft Office and the Prisoner Telephone System (desirable).
Pre‑employment Checks
The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre‑employment checks, which may include a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) and misconduct screening.
