We’re enabling the energy transition to a cleaner, more reliable electricity grid, and invite you to be at the forefront of this groundbreaking journey.

Why Hydrostor?

Our cutting-edge A-CAES technology is uniquely positioned to revolutionize the energy landscape. Join us as we lead the way in shaping a greener, more sustainable future.

Your Mission

As a Manager, Policy and Regulatory Affairs at Hydrostor, you will play a pivotal role in supporting our regulatory and government affairs initiatives in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. Reporting directly to the Senior Director, Regulatory and Government Affairs, you will lead efforts in coordinating the company’s engagement with government, regulators, and industry stakeholders. This role is integral to our project development activities, fostering positive relationships with key stakeholders and contributing to shaping energy policy and regulatory frameworks that enable the deployment of long-duration energy storage projects. You will work closely with our development team in Australia and collaborate with teams globally to advance our mission of providing sustainable energy solutions.

Your Day-to-Day Adventures

  • Assist in developing and implementing strategies to influence energy policy and regulatory outcomes aligned with Hydrostor’s business objectives in Australia and potential Asia-Pacific markets.
  • Contribute to Hydrostor’s participation in regulatory consultations, rule changes, and submissions. Track and analyse policy developments and provide briefings to internal team.
  • Support relationship management with government departments, regulatory bodies (e.g. AEMC, AER), market operators (e.g. AEMO), and industry associations.
  • Ensure compliance with lobbying and government participation requirements.
  • Liaise with the External Communications team to implement communication strategies.
  • Work closely with internal teams including commercial, legal, and technical to ensure regulatory considerations are integrated into project planning and execution. Coordinate with the Toronto-based policy and regulatory team to ensure consistency in advocacy objectives.
  • Handle ad hoc requests and other duties as assigned.

Who You Are

We are seeking an experienced and motivated individual with a proactive attitude and strong interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will demonstrate initiative, accountability, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Critical thinking, good judgment, and excellent communication skills are essential. Experience in regulatory / government affairs within the energy sector, along with media and public relations skills, is required. The successful candidate will be adaptable, able to navigate ambiguity and excel in relationship management.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree (business / economics, political science, or policy preferred); advanced degree preferred (business or communications).
  • 5+ years experience in energy policy, regulatory affairs, or government relations, ideally within the Australian energy sector.
  • Familiarity with the National Electricity Market (NEM), National Electricity Rules (NER), and relevant regulatory institutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and influence legislative, program, and policy outcomes.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with experience preparing policy submissions and stakeholder briefings. Ability to collaborate across internal functions and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Desire to contribute to a high-growth company with an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proactive, independent thinker with a strong work ethic.
  • Team player capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, particularly PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
