About the Role

Alfred Health, a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research, and education, is the main provider of health services to the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne, offering ambulatory, inpatient, and home and community-based services.

Alfred Health runs the premier training program in Emergency Medicine at The Alfred and Sandringham Hospitals. Trainees benefit from rotations across both sites, gaining diverse clinical and academic experience. Applications are now open for Emergency Registrar positions starting February 2026. All suitably qualified medical officers are encouraged to apply.

Training Sites

The Alfred Emergency & Trauma Centre offers :

• Tier 1 (36 months) accreditation by ACEM
• 5 hours protected teaching time weekly
• Primary and Fellowship Exam training programs every Wednesday
• Extensive emergency medicine research support, coordinated by Prof Peter Cameron and Prof Dev Mitra
• External rotations including ICU, Anaesthetics, Trauma Services, Eye & Ear Hospital, Hyperbaric Service
• Senior registrar program focusing on non-clinical skills for transitioning to a consultant role, including Quality Improvement & Assurance projects and education session development

Sandringham Emergency Department, seeing approximately 43,000 presentations annually, offers :
