The role

Reporting to the General Manager Safety, you will be responsible for supporting the implementation of TasPorts’ Safety Strategy through the provision of practical, site-based health and safety support. The role is responsible for promoting a proactive safety culture by providing expert advice, coaching, and operational guidance to leaders and teams. Working closely with the broader HSE function and operational stakeholders, the position plays a key role in embedding safety systems, driving continuous improvement, and reducing health and safety risk across TasPorts’ operations.

Responsibilities

This position holds responsibility for supporting the implementation of health and safety initiatives within a defined geographical or operational area. As a site-based role, the position works autonomously to provide practical and timely safety support, advice and coaching to operational teams.

The role requires sound decision-making and the ability to prioritise and respond to safety issues in a dynamic and sometimes ambiguous environment. It will be expected to exercise judgment, escalate risk appropriately, and influence behaviours through strong professional relationships.

This role can be based in either Burnie, Hobart or Launceston.

Bring your extensive knowledge of contemporary health and safety to make a positive difference by championing a collaborative approach, building strong relationships, and fostering effective communication across all levels of the organisation.

The Key Experience We Are Looking For Includes

  • Demonstrated experience in providing practical health and safety advice in an operational environment, with the ability to build trust and influence positive safety behaviours.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety legislation, codes of practice, and risk management principles, with the ability to apply them in a pragmatic and solution-focused way.
  • Proven ability to coach and influence people at all levels, including frontline workers and senior leaders, to promote a proactive and accountable safety culture.
  • Experience in facilitating or leading incident investigations (including ICAM methodology), identifying root causes, and implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Sound understanding of injury management and workers compensation processes, with the ability to provide guidance and support to leaders and workers.
  • Experience in auditing and / or reviewing safety systems, policies, and procedures for effectiveness and compliance.
  • Experience in providing safety reports against KPIs.

Essential

What you will have

  • Tertiary qualification in Work Health and Safety or a related discipline or demonstrated equivalent experience.
  • Current driver’s licence.
  • Desirable

  • ICAM Lead Investigator qualification or experience in conducting investigations.
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122 or equivalent).
  • Lead Auditor qualification in Work Health and Safety Management Systems.
  • Relevant qualifications or experience in injury management and workers compensation.
