Overview
We are seeking to establish a pool of Lead Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies that may arise during the 2026 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
At Koorana Education Support Centre, our teaching and support staff are highly trained and experienced professionals in the field of Special Needs and Disabilities Education. Our programs focus on a functional, relevant, engaging curriculum to improve students’ independence skills in preparation for high school. We maintain a high staff-to-student ratio to ensure teaching and learning is highly individualised, with the student at the centre of all we do. We work with therapists, families and caregivers to provide a balanced program addressing academic, social and emotional needs.
Our facilities include air-conditioned classrooms with technology such as iPads and interactive whiteboards, a Sensory Room, and additional teaching and learning spaces in the life skills demountable, multi-purpose room, alternative / low-stimulation classroom and playground area.
Role and responsibilities
Lead Education Assistants will guide and support a team of Education Assistants. In this role, you will work under the direction of classroom teachers to ensure students with additional needs are effectively supported in achieving educational goals and to promote a supportive, inclusive learning environment. Suitable applicants will model, mentor, and coach colleagues in the delivery of planned education programs. You will ideally have experience with best-practice strategies, providing constructive feedback and fostering a collaborative team culture, with a strong commitment to inclusive education and excellent communication skills to build positive, professional relationships with staff, students and families.
When required, you will provide feedback on education and therapy programs and participate in the evaluation process relating to the achievement of goals in special education.
