About the program :

AIR6500 is the RAAF’s $3 billion program to develop a joint air battle management system that builds on the capabilities offered by Next Generation sensor and command and control systems. AIR6500 will create a fully networked ‘system of systems’ that synchronises air and missile defence operations in joint and coalition environments, maximising situational awareness and enhancing the speed of decision making across the battlespace.

Your responsibilities will include :

Lockheed Martin Australia is seeking an experienced Lead Systems Engineer – Integrated Support Systems to provide subject matter expertise on the AIR6500 program – the Royal Australian Air Force’s future Joint Air Battle Management System (JABMS).

In this senior leadership role, you will guide the definition, development, and technical assurance of the Support System architecture, covering the systems, tools, and infrastructure needed to train, maintain, operate, and sustain the mission system. This includes training environments, maintenance systems, technical documentation, support equipment, and logistics frameworks.

You will act as the Operational Continuity IPT SME , supporting the System Architect and JABMS System Technical Authority by ensuring technical integrity, design consistency, system safety, and compliance with RAM, cyber, and supportability standards across the lifecycle.

This is a complex, multi-disciplinary engineering role – ideal for a systems engineer with deep ILS and support system experience in Defence programs, particularly with Supportability Engineering, Sustainment Planning, and Through-Life Support in a mission system or C4ISR environment.

Key Responsibilities :

• Lead and evolve the Support System architecture within AIR6500, ensuring alignment with ILS principles and through-life support strategies.
• Guide technical teams through the systems engineering lifecycle , including requirements, architecture development, integration, V&V, and technical risk management.
• Collaborate across Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), including operations, logistics, training, cyber, infrastructure, and sustainment stakeholders.
• Ensure the design reflects principles of Reliability, Availability and Maintainability ( RAM ), Supportability, and Obsolescence Management.
• Support system-level assurance activities covering system safety, ICT / cyber security, environmental compliance, and configuration management.
• Facilitate design reviews, manage stakeholder feedback, and ensure technical documentation reflects design intent and sustainment needs.
• Mentor engineering staff in best-practice systems and ILS engineering methods.
