From take‑off to landing, Thales offers integrated solutions supporting today’s growing domestic and international air‑traffic requirements. We’re delivering a harmonised Civil / Military Air Traffic Management System (CMATS / OneSKY) in Australia for Airservices Australia and Defence, enabling higher safety, efficiency and environmental outcomes.
The role
The Systems Architect is a key role for the OneSKY project and part of the Systems Solution Architecture team. You will define and deliver a state‑of‑the‑art air traffic solution, engaging directly with our customer and senior stakeholders. You will maintain the solution architecture across the lifecycle, ensuring it meets requirements, stays compliant, and delivers value.
Key responsibilities
Lead working groups to conduct technical arbitration between subsystems and security teams, ensuring constraints align with system design.Act as the primary technical contact for the customer, managing solution baseline evolutions.Stabilise and maintain the solution architecture throughout its lifecycle, collaborating with SEMs and PDA.Optimise the architecture by identifying key drivers, exploring candidate concepts, performing trade‑offs, and documenting decisions.Perform early validation through modelling and proof‑of‑concept activities to de‑risk design.Develop architectural viewpoints : define the system breakdown, govern interface definitions, and arbitrate between contributors.Describe system behaviour through functional flows and identify inter‑component dependencies.On day one you will come with
The ability to obtain Australian defence clearance.10+ years’ experience in similar roles delivering complex, software‑centric real‑time systems.Experience in Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and architectural frameworks such as Arcadia and NAF (mandatory).Demonstrated ability to design secure solution architectures in line with ISM and other security standards.Experience with collective decision‑making and conflict resolution.Capability to manage diverse stakeholders with differing objectives.Proven ability to work in a multicultural environment and with international customers.A Defence security clearance is required for this role.
