About the role

The Housing Chaplain is a key member of the team providing holistic care and support to residents and staff within a housing context. The role is responsible for the delivery of a number of key objectives which includes, but is not limited to :

  • Facilitating a holistic pastoral care program;
  • Nurturing a Jesus Centred spirituality;
  • Developing a healthy community through implementing sound community development practices;
  • Working with volunteers to flourish further care within the service.

Chaplains are members of the Church and Community Engagement team of Churches of Christ, and support activities aligned with the strategic direction of, and consistent with, the mission and values of Churches of Christ.

This full-time position provides chaplaincy services to multiple sites within the Inner Brisbane area (i.e. Fortitude Valley, Eagle Farm, Spring Hill etc.).

About you

You are active in your Christian faith and have a demonstrated competence in holistic pastoral care. As a team person with a teachable spirit, you are able to communicate effectively with others in a variety of contexts. You are comfortable in working alongside people from different faiths, cultures and lifestyle choices as well as educational backgrounds. You are a caring and positive role model to others and have proven leadership and management skills with the capacity to deliver outcomes, inspire and motivate teams and work across organisational boundaries to achieve shared goals.

Your qualifications and experience for this role should include  :

  • Ability to be endorsed as a Ministering Person with Churches of Christ;
  • Certificate IV in Pastoral Care, Chaplaincy, Christian Ministry or relevant equivalent qualification;
  • Current Driver's license and a willingness to travel periodically;
  • Demonstrated experience in providing pastoral care, chaplaincy services or community development at an advanced level;
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a servant leader who values all people including the marginalised;
  • Demonstrated ability to model a missional lifestyle and to communicate Christian beliefs and convictions within the Australian context.
