Orygen is Australia’s Centre of Excellence in Youth Mental Health and the largest translational research organisation dedicated to youth mental health in the world.

For over 30 years, Orygen has led groundbreaking early intervention and developed evidence-based models of care to improve the mental health outcomes of young people aged 12-25.

headspace is a world-first youth mental health initiative that supports young people who are going through a tough time; whether it’s depression, anxiety, relationship break-ups or alcohol and other drug issues. The youth-friendly services at headspace are aimed at teenagers and young adults in recognition of the fact that 75 percent of mental disorders emerge before the age of 25 years.

About The Job

Allied Health Practitioners (AHPs) provide private practice services and high quality, evidence-based interventions to young people aged 12-25. The AHPs are those eligible to use Medicare services including clinical psychologists, general psychologists, social workers and occupational therapists.

Reporting To The Clinical Services Manager You Will

  • Act as a private practitioner with support from the headspace team and other providers offering a range of specialist services.
  • Offer a range of specialist services depending on your qualifications and experience, including general health care, sexual health care, psycho-social support, family support, AOD counselling, vocational support, and a variety of therapeutic and recreational / social groups.
  • Access primary and secondary consultation and psychiatric review from the headspace clinical team, including our senior clinicians, psychiatric registrar and private consultant psychiatrists.

Positions available across all 5 headspace sites; Melton, Werribee, Sunshine, Glenroy and Craigieburn.

Skills And Experience

The following criteria must be met for consideration for this position :

  • Approved tertiary qualifications in psychology, social work, occupational therapy and current registration with appropriate professional body (AHPRA / AASW).
  • Eligibility to provide Medicare Benefits Schedule service and professional indemnity insurance.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in the assessment, diagnosis and provision of evidence-based treatments of mental health disorders and preferably youth, including knowledge, experience, understanding and passion for the health and wellbeing of young people
  • Sound knowledge of and demonstrated experience in clinical practice and therapeutic interventions within the mental health field, including mental health disorders across the developmental stages of young people and the impact that this has on their development and the impact on the family / significant others.
