Are you passionate about shaping impactful policy? We're looking for a skilled Senior Policy Officer to lead the development and implementation of initiatives that support agency and government priorities.
About The Team
The Funding Policy and Coordination Branch is a new central function for policy development, strategic direction, and governance oversight within the NSW Reconstruction Authority to support the delivery of programs under the Australian Government's Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA). The Branch designs and implements sector-wide systems, policies, and procedures that govern programs across all disaster recovery domains – social, built, economic, and environmental. As the NSW Government lead on reform initiatives for the DRFA, the Branch drives policy enhancements and aims to deliver improvements for NSW delivery agencies, councils, and communities recovering from disasters. The team also provides secretariat support services for cross‑government decision‑making bodies and is responsible for assurance and oversight of the DRFA portfolio, regular reporting on status, risk, and budget, and tracking progress of recovery initiatives.
About The Role
As Senior Policy Officer, you will research and analyse complex policy issues, develop evidence‑based solutions, and provide expert advice to support strategic decision‑making. You will ensure policies are clearly understood and effectively implemented across the organisation, manage stakeholder relationships, monitor policy outcomes, and guide junior staff to deliver high‑quality work. Your ability to prepare clear, informative reports and briefs will support agency responses and government commitments.
About You
You are part of the Policy Review and Implementation team and will work on broad whole‑of‑government reforms that have a meaningful impact on disaster‑impacted communities within NSW. You have strong experience in large‑scale policy reform, development, and implementation, with a proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high‑quality outcomes. You are confident working independently, making decisions that shape policy direction, clear communicator and collaborator, skilled at building stakeholder engagement and translating complex issues into practical solutions. Your leadership and analytical skills make you a trusted contributor to policy success. Experience in the development of emergency management, recovery or disaster funding policy will be highly regarded.
