Remuneration : $55.09 - $67.15 per hour + superannuation

Hours Per Week : 38

Location : Maitland Hospital – high street campus in Maitland, with free on-site parking. Some travel across the Hunter Valley region will be required to support clinical work.

What You’ll Be Doing

The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) is a specialist service providing assessment and treatment for young people aged 0–17 years and their families or carers across the Hunter New England Local Health District (HNE LHD).

As a mental health professional within CAMHS, you will specialise in the assessment and treatment of mental illness, as well as in evaluating family systems and the broader psychosocial factors that influence a young person’s wellbeing and recovery.

Core responsibilities include conducting comprehensive mental health assessments, delivering psychological and family-based interventions, case coordination, and multidisciplinary consultation.

Regular collaboration with colleagues is a key feature. Dual‑clinician sessions, joint case reviews, and cross‑disciplinary consultations—with psychiatry, dietetics, speech pathology, and inpatient services—are integral to providing holistic, high‑quality care.

About You

We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled clinician who brings experience in delivering therapeutic interventions for complex child and adolescent mental health presentations.

Authentic teamwork, flexible management of competing demands, and a commitment to quality care that enhances consumer outcomes are essential.

Experience in family therapy is beneficial but not essential. Training and mentorship are available for specific family therapy models.

Requirements

• Qualification – Must hold a qualification in one of the following : Occupational Therapy, Clin Psych / Clin Psych in training, Nursing, Social Work, Counsellor, Nutrition and Dietetics. Eligibility for registration through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency is required.
• Post‑registration – For a CNS2 : relevant post‑registration qualifications and at least 3 years’ experience working in the clinical area of a post‑graduate qualification.
• Driving – Eligibility to drive in NSW and interstate and willingness to travel in the course of employment.
• Citizenship – Australian Citizen, permanent resident, New Zealand citizen with current New Zealand Passport, or appropriate visa that allows you to live and work in Australia.
