Ferrycarrig are a civil / utilities company with approximately 200 staff operating in NSW. The position of diesel mechanic involves working on a multidisciplinary team of mechanics and plant drivers to ensure the upkeep of the entire fleet and adhoc work in the yard. The plant department has approximately 150 large items of plant.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel engines and related systems
- Perform routine maintenance on trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment
- Inspect engines, transmissions, brakes, and other mechanical systems
- Maintain accurate service records and documentation
- Ensure all work meets safety and environmental regulations
- Work independently and / or as part of a team to complete tasks efficiently
- Ensure the plant fleet and company vehicles are at a satisfactory safety level at all times
- Perform any minor and major repairs on all company vehicles
- Conduct regular preventative maintenance on service trucks, including inspection, tyre rotation and oil changes
- Collaborate with the Plant & Yard team to diagnose problems with vehicles and plan repairs
- Repair damaged parts, units, malfunctions or deficiencies with vehicles or machinery in a cost-effective manner
- Communicate with vehicle / machine operators
- Run diagnostic tests on vehicles
- Analyze diagnostic test results
- Replace vehicle engines, steering mechanisms, transmissions and braking systems
- Check vehicle lighting systems
- Test drive vehicles to gauge performance
- Perform preventative maintenance on service trucks
- Maintain detailed records of serviced vehicles
- Adhere to an inspection procedure checklist
- Maintain a parts inventory
- Ensure the cleanliness of the yard and workshop
Requirements
Proven experience as a diesel mechanic (5+ years preferred)Knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, and diagnosticsAbility to use diagnostic tools and repair equipmentStrong attention to detail and problem solving skillsMust be dependable, punctual, and safety mindedSeniority level
