The vision for nursing at Prince of Wales Hospital is Transforming Person Centred Care Together. The After Hours Nurse Manager (AHNM) is a senior nurse manager responsible for the overall management of the facility outside of business hours. As such the AHNM has a whole of hospital responsibility. This includes the operational management of patient access and care coordination, and in monitoring associated KPI targets such as Emergency Treatment Performance (ETP) and Transfer of Care (TOC).

The AHNM will manage all significant events outside of business hours in consultation with the nominated Executive rostered on‑call. The AHNM has a professional responsibility for the nursing and associated support staff working after hours including the effective management of skill mix, monitoring and replacement of unplanned shifts and WH&S associated responsibilities.

The AHNM works in close collaboration with the Nursing Services Team, Patient Flow Team, Advance Practice Nurse Team. As a leader in the organisation, the AHNM will assist progress nurse‑led strategy and practice improvement through a practice development approach.

Where You'll be Working

Prince of Wales Hospital and Community Health Service is a Level 6 Tertiary Referral Hospital with an inpatient bed base of 370. Each year we care for more than 70,000 patients in our Emergency Department and have around 50,000 admissions to the inpatient units. POWH offers an outpatient service and rural outreach service and provides more than 900,000 occasions of non‑admitted patient care each year, including innovative virtual models of care.

We have transitioned the majority of inpatient units and wards to the Acute Services Building (ASB) including a state of the art Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit. POWH provides an exceptional staff experience and enhanced patient and family outcomes as a result of the provision of person‑centred care.

Selection Criteria

  • Registered Nurse who holds current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA)
  • Recognised tertiary management qualifications or working towards same, and evidence of recent professional development to further enhance leadership and management competencies
  • Demonstrated experience in the application of change management principles and achievement of measurable outcomes
  • Demonstrated skills in leadership and senior management within a complex health care environment
  • Recent broad clinical, operational and strategic experience at a senior level within a complex health care environment
  • Demonstrated effective verbal, written and negotiation skills with an aptitude to utilise relevant information technology platforms and ability to provide a clear and concise plans and reports
  • Demonstrated understanding of Ministry of Health strategic directions, quality and safety framework and the Nursing agenda
  • Sound knowledge of current clinical practice, its delivery and models of care and the ability to motivate, inspire and lead staff to achieve service and professional goals
