The Group Treasury, Chief Investment Office (CIO) is responsible for the active management of the risks that arise from Westpac's day-to-day banking activities with customers and its structural balance sheet positions. This includes Westpac Group’s interest rate, foreign currency and basis risks, liquid assets portfolio, collateral obligations, short-term funding programs (onshore and offshore) and intraday liquidity risk management.
As part of the Financial Insights, Risk and Enablement team, you’ll have the opportunity to work closely with Front Office traders to support and enhance CIO’s trading and risk management capabilities.
Key responsibilities :
- Be the go-to expert for Front Office traders when risk or valuation challenges arise within CIO’s risk and P&L platform (Dragon). Your expert guidance and timeliness in diagnosing and resolving the root cause of discrepancies will ensure the trading team have confidence in the platform to make informed decisions.
- Collaborate with Front Office traders to translate complex valuation and risk mechanics into actionable insights.
- Partner with Analytics, Technology, and Treasury teams to design and deliver enhancements to Dragon and other analytical tools, to enable new products for the trading team and improve the accuracy of the tools.
- Act as the CIO subject matter expert for Group Treasury change and enablement initiatives.
- Drive analytical efficiency and reduce operational risk by identifying, designing, and implementing simplification opportunities.
What do I need?
- Strong quantitative and analytical skill set — demonstrated through academic background or practical experience in financial markets, risk, or data-driven analysis.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications (Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or similar).
- At least 3 years of banking experience, ideally with exposure to Financial Markets or Treasury.
- Solid understanding of financial market products, Murex product system and Front Office risk / P&L concepts.
- Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in quantitative tools; programming experience (e.g. Python, VBA, SQL) is a valuable bonus.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to bridge technical analysis and trader decision-making.
- A proactive, self-motivated approach and a strong desire to work in a fast-paced, collaborative trading environment.
