The AFP is expanding in Western Australia to support important national protection priorities. There’s an opportunity to explore career opportunities in Perth, including roles as Protective Service Officers (PSO) to support Submarine Rotational Force West at HMAS Stirling, a Royal Australian Navy base near Perth.
As a PSO at HMAS Stirling, you’ll contribute to Australia’s defence capabilities and national security, and you’ll have the chance to develop specialist skills across areas including maritime, rapid response and public order management.
You’ll gain experience working with domestic and international defence stakeholders alongside nuclear-powered submarines.

Responsibilities
Training and qualifications
There is no requirement to commit to long study periods upfront. You will be paid to train over 15 weeks, with accommodation and meals provided. Upon successful completion, you will be awarded a Certificate IV in Protective Services.
Following graduation from the AFP College in Canberra or Pinkenba in Brisbane, PSOs are paid a starting salary of $78,960.86 per annum . This includes base salary, 22% composite and Use of Force (UoF) allowance, plus overtime and penalties. PSOs also receive 15.4% superannuation, including during maternity leave.
Eligibility and how to apply
Hold a Year 10 Certificate + 2 years of work experience, OR
Hold a Year 10 Certificate + a nationally recognised vocational qualification Certificate III or higher, OR
Hold a Year 12 Certificate, OR
Hold a vocational education qualification / tertiary qualification at Diploma level or higher.
