Team Leader Planning Services

In a fast-growing, ever changing metropolitan municipality, a high-performing and collaborative planning services team is a vital part of achieving the Darebin community’s vision for a more equitable, vibrant and connected city.

To this end, the Team Leader is responsible for the day-to-day coordination of a team of administration officers to provide sector-leading business and customer services to the public and the Darebin Statutory Planning unit. As part of the leadership group of the Customer and Business Services Unit, the Team Leader will collaborate to provide administrative coverage, staff development and continuous improvement activities across the building, planning and health portfolios.

The Team Leader will work closely with the Head of Statutory Planning to ensure that the service provided and the under-pinning systems of work support the efficient and effective operation of the Statutory Planning team and the administration of the Darebin Planning System.

About the Role

The Team Leader is responsible for the day-to-day coordination of a team of administration officers to provide sector-leading business and customer services to the public and the Darebin Statutory Planning unit. More specifically, the Team Leader Planning Services will :

• Build a high-performing team with a strong culture of collaboration and service excellence.
• Ensure the team provides a positive customer experience.
• Contribute to and identify continuous improvement activities.
• Play a key role in preparing for the move to Council’s new Enterprise Resource Planning system.
• Oversee and be responsible for the achievement of statutory processes and timeframes.

Skills & Experience

• Tertiary qualification and / or appropriate experience in business, public administration, land use planning or other field relevant to work in a local government office.
• Advantageous :

Experience in the Victorian planning, building or construction sectors.

• Experience in the local government sector.
• Demonstrated, relevant experience including :

Staff management and co-ordinating administrative and customer service activities within a busy customer focused department.

• Well-developed skills in administrative practices.
• Well-developed skills to investigate issues and solve problems.
• High level of attention to detail.
• Proficiency in the development, use and application of a variety of information technology systems including Pathway, GIS and the Microsoft Office suite of applications (including Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
• Ability to identify and utilise technological solutions to issues to ensure quality service delivery, and provide on the job technology-based training and support to other staff.
• The ability to extract data from systems for the purpose of preparing reports for other government agencies and internal use.
