What does the job look like?

As the National Safety & Compliance Manager – Retail, you will provide strategic leadership across all Retail Transport and Warehouse sites, ensuring a consistent and proactive approach to safety and compliance. You’ll drive the development and implementation of safety and compliance strategies, lead key projects, and act as a trusted advisor to senior operational stakeholders, ensuring all incidents are managed in line with legislative and company requirements.

This role is pivotal in coaching, influencing, and mentoring National and State Managers to embed a culture of effective safety leadership. You’ll leverage your expertise in behavioural safety techniques and statutory requirements to drive best practices and continuous improvement across the business. Key areas :

• Lead and mentor Safety & Compliance Managers, partnering with senior leaders to develop and execute the Safety, Health & Compliance (SH&C) strategy for the Retail business unit.
• Develop and implement safety documentation for new business, monitor incident investigations and ensure timely reporting to Comcare and other authorities. Prepare and present safety statistics and KPIs to the Senior Leadership Team.
• Lead serious incident investigations using a risk‑based approach, facilitate 4Ds and STKY sessions, and ensure the business takes a proactive stance on risk identification and control.
• Oversee and support lead auditors to ensure consistency in sub‑contractor compliance, remuneration, and COR audits. Establish audit criteria for social governance and remuneration.
• Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including customer representatives, transport providers, union delegates, and government agencies. Prepare and present customer reports as required.
• Facilitate regular safety and compliance meetings, set annual KPI targets, and drive initiatives to improve safety performance and culture.
