Where You Will Be Working
- Special Care Nursery (SCN) : A Level 3 unit with 3 beds, caring for neonates from 34 weeks gestation and back transfers from John Hunter Children’s Hospital NICU (from 32 weeks). The SCN provides respiratory / CPAP support, hypoglycaemia and jaundice management, and care focused on the growth and development of premature babies.
- Paediatric Unit : An 8-bed unit (with flexible capacity), supporting children and adolescents with medical, surgical, orthopaedic, mental health, and oncology needs.
These units are closely networked with tertiary centres including John Hunter Children’s Hospital (JHCH), ensuring continuity of care and optimal outcomes for our patients.
What This Role Involves
Deliver high-quality, family-centred nursing care across both the SCN and Paediatric Unit.Act as a clinical resource and provide leadership and mentorship to newer staff, particularly when caring for neonates and children.Communicate effectively with families, multidisciplinary teams, and tertiary hospitals.Work a rotating 24-hour roster, including 12-hour shifts in SCN.Collaborate with an experienced Clinical Nurse Educator who supports orientation, education, and professional development.You will be well supported by the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM), with the Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) working closely with new staff to provide comprehensive orientation and ongoing education.
