We are the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. We lead Australia's response to climate change and sustainable energy use, and help protect our environment, heritage, and water. We provide advice to the Australian Government around climate, energy, and the environment, and administer legislation. The department also enforce laws relating to the protection of the environment and biodiversity, wildlife, fuel quality and greenhouse gas storage.

About the TeamThe Recruitment and Employment Programs Section manages the department's entry-level recruitment programs including graduate program and designs and provides best practice recruitment policy, advice and support to assist the department to meet its workforce needs.
The JobAbout the RoleThe Assistant Director - Recruitment, assists the Director to lead the department's Recruitment Team and is responsible for providing expert advice and overseeing the department's recruitment activities. The Assistant Director develops, monitors, advises and ensures compliance with recruitment and selection policies and legislation across the portfolio. The Assistant Director also directly supports and / or manages bulk recruitment rounds and oversees the administration of online recruitment systems.
The Assistant Director, Recruitment will :
lead, coach, and mentor a busy team operating in a fast-paced work environment and delivering on competing priorities, including establishing expectations, scheduling and reviewing work, managing improvement initiatives and resources, giving effective feedback and mentoring and developing employeeslead the provision of expert advice and guidance across the portfolio on all aspects of recruitment and selection practice and policy, and consult widely to ensure that advice provided is based on a good understanding of current and future work area needsdrawing on expert, current knowledge in the field, initiate and implement policy, systems and process improvements across the recruitment function, and develop and implement evaluation methods to identify areas of success and opportunities for improvementensure that all guidelines and templates used to support recruitment activity in are clear, available and up to datemonitor selection activities across the portfolio to ensure compliance with policy and legislated requirementslead strategic reform projects to improve the operation and efficiency of the department's recruitment systems, tools and practicesoversee the administration of the online recruitment system, eRecruit, to ensure the provision of quality data and reporting in relation to recruitment activitiesdevelop and maintain effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders through the provision of sound advice and the development of strong networksprepare complex and / or sensitive correspondence, briefs and documentationdevelop and manage relationships with stakeholders across and outside the portfolio and represent the work area through participation on committees and in networks.There are multiple Assistant Director - Recruitment positions (listed below) to which this recruitment process will be used to fill current vacancies, as well as future vacancies that may arise over the next 18 months.
