Our school The School of Engineering is one of the most research-intensive Schools within the University. The School offers Engineering degree programs in Aerospace Systems, Chemical, Civil, Computer Systems, Electrical and Electronic, Environmental, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Medical, and, Renewable Energy as well as degree programs in Surveying and Geospatial Engineering. It is rated well above the sector average for quality of overall experience for undergraduate engineering students and is equipped with modern teaching and research facilities for staff.

The Hunter region has the greatest growth in NSW outside of the Sydney Basin and is home to the Newcastle Port, the Williamtown airport and the Williamtown RAAF base as well as developers and manufacturers of a diverse range of technologies and devices. It is rich in natural mineral and water resources, electricity generation capacity and food and wine producers and offers exciting opportunities for research and industrial collaboration. The School is highly research active, contributing substantially to the overall research inputs and outputs of the College and University. This is reflected in the 2018 Excellence in Research in Australia outcomes where Electrical, Civil, Mechanical and Resource engineering FOR codes received an ERA5.

Be challenged and imagine with us The School of Engineering is seeking to appoint a Lecturer who is PhD qualified in Civil (Structural) Engineering with a passion for teaching and a flair for research. We are looking for someone with expertise in areas related to structural materials, reliability and engineering covering structural design, analysis and modelling; sustainable engineering practice incorporating circular economy impacts.

The successful candidate will have the capability and eagerness to engage and network with external organisations to secure research funding and assist industry in solving highly complex technical problems. Associated research publications and outcome should cover areas such as :

Advanced structural material analysis and designSustainable and reliable development and rejuvenation of on-shore and off-shore infrastructureAdaptation and transformation of critical infrastructure, be it urban, coastal and rural resources.If successful in this role, you will have the opportunity to work under senior mentorship to collaboratively maintain high standards in teaching and service.

How will you inspire us The successful candidates will have :

Expertise : Completed a PhD qualification in Civil (Structural) Engineering, and a BE in Civil Engineering.Research : Demonstrated reasonable record of publication in relevant structural engineering outlets including, if possible, evidence of international and national research collaborations.National Recognition : Demonstrate a positive trajectory in aiming to achieve national recognition in structural engineering.Supervision : Skills in active supervision of honours, master's and / or Higher Degree by Research postgraduate research projectsTeaching : Demonstrate reasonable ability to achieve teaching quality as indicated by internal and external surveys and outcomes.Engagement : Have excellent communication skills and the ability to efficiently perform in allocated internal roles and developing external collaborations.DESIRABLE CRITERIA Teaching and research experience in experimental testing in structural engineering, expertise in numerical modelling, expertise in structural reliability.Professional industry experience in structural design.For the full list of essential and desirable selection criteria, please review the Position Description.
