The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Ltd was established by its founding members to provide a coordinated / integrated approach to the planning, development and delivery of comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations within the Southeast Qld Region.
The Quality and Innovation Unit provides leadership in the development, implementation and evaluation of plans, programs, models and policies for improving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health and Well-being.
The Public Health Team sits within the Quality and Innovation Unit, aiming to improve the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in SEQ through community-driven best practice public health.
About the Role The Health Promotion Officer is responsible for working across the IUIH Network to develop and deliver community-based health education, promotion, and prevention activities.
Day-to-Day Duties Include Work collaboratively with the Public Health team to support public health priorities. Connect and engage with Mob, sharing key health information and encouraging healthy choices as part of our commitment to helping people live healthy and deadly lives. Identify and utilize existing health promotion materials in programs. Distribute health information and program materials, supporting community participation in activities like cancer screening. Build and maintain relationships with health services, community organizations, and community members. Coordinate with health services and community organizations to host health promotion days. Promote Community Controlled Health Services and engage community members in health screening initiatives, immunizations, 715 health checks, and other health programs and clinical advice. About You It is a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 that the incumbent is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander male. Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD) Current Criminal History Check Valid Blue Card Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and / or communities Desirable but not mandatory Qualification in Health Promotion, Public Health, or relevant field What We Offer Being part of Australia's largest community-controlled Aboriginal Health Service.
