Perth (Western Australia) is located in a region strongly associated with the energy industry in Australia and is close to the major energy-producing regions of SE Asia. Students undertaking this course benefit from UWA's geographic proximity and our collaborative research relationships with the energy industry. This course will enable you to develop skills in geological and geophysical data analysis, fieldwork, and integration of datasets related to sedimentary basin analysis. Application to energy exploration, carbon storage and alternative energy sources and storage, emphasises the importance of technical skills in geoscience as well as the role and relevance of geoscience in the global energy transition to a zero carbon future.

You will have the opportunity to access industry datasets and tools, and use the latest digital technology to develop advanced skills in the analysis of geoscientific data. This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills to solve real-world problems in the field of energy geoscience with relevance and application to carbon sequestration, energy storage, basin-hosted mineral resources and groundwater.

UWA's Master of Energy Geoscience is taught by enthusiastic staff who are leading researchers in the field with access to the world-class research facilities of the School of Earth and Oceans and its Centre for Energy Geoscience, including industry-grade computer workstations, 2D and 3D interpretation software, sedimentology and biostratigraphy laboratories, and access to UWA's Centre for Microscopy, Characterisation and Analysis. You will also benefit from Perth's location with workshop-style engagement with industry scientists, fieldtrips, and workshops at the WA State Government Core Library, which all contribute to making this course unique in the southern hemisphere.

Career opportunities : The Master of Energy Geoscience is ideal if you wish to pursue a career in the increasingly diverse energy resources sector and / or the broader array of basin-hosted resource exploration and management, including consultancies. Completion of a research project in the Masters course is a pathway to higher study and careers in research in academic institutions and government agencies.

About the course : Up to 2 years full time, commencing Semester 1 (late February) or Semester 2 (late July). Students may apply to undertake a research project within this degree.

Admission requirements : A bachelor's degree with a geoscience major or an equivalent qualification as recognized by UWA. You must also demonstrate a minimum level of English Language Competence.
