About the RoleThe Legislation Coordination Section is responsible for the oversight and management of the portfolio's legislation program. This includes coordinating legislative bids, managing sunsetting processes, liaising with Parliamentary Liaison Officers, the Federal Executive Secretariat and the publishing team at the Office of Parliamentary Counsel and supporting the progress and of all bills, legislative instruments and associated documents. It also involves coordinating department comments on, or progressing approval processes in relation to non-portfolio legislative change proposals.
Duties of the role include :
- Providing a central contact point for the Federal Executive Council (ExCo) secretariat and working with them to meet timeframes and improve processes
- Responsibility for the coordination of the department's lodgement of, and processes related to the Federal Register of Legislation
- Tracking the department's legislative instruments, including making, tabling and any parliament scrutiny committee questions and comments
- Leading the coordination of the portfolio's legislative instrument bids process
- Working collaboratively with legal officers to ensure that legislative process risks are communicated accurately and in a timely fashion
- Maintaining the latest information in relation to legislative change and scrutiny processes
- Monitoring the Legislation Coordination Section mailboxes
