- About the directorate
The NDIS Worker Check is a division of the OCG. It operates under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (Worker Checks) Act 2018 (NSW). It screens workers that provide services and supports to people with disability (adults and children) under the NDIS. It aims to support people with disability by preventing workers that pose a risk of harm from working closely with them. We gather information about a person's history, such as their criminal and workplace records, and undertake an assessment as to whether they pose a risk.
- About the role
The role of the Legal Officer is to support the operational staff to perform their statutory functions. The Legal Officer provides advice, analysis and guidance to staff in the NDIS Worker Check. The Legal Officer develops knowledge, capabilities and competency in relation to our legislative requirements, and ensures compliance with the relevant legislation.
We are seeking a motivated and resilient person to :
- Maintain a detailed and practical understanding of the primary legislation affecting the operations of the NDIS Worker Check.
- Provide accurate and efficient analysis and advice to staff to support timely decision-making.
- Identify legal issues (and solutions) affecting the functions and decisions of the NDIS Worker Check.
- Undertake analysis of decisions to ensure compliance with legislative requirements.
- Provide advice and analysis to support internal and external reviews of decisions.
- Key knowledge and experience
- A law degree or equivalent is essential.
- Experience in administrative or regulatory decision making is strongly preferred, but not essential.
- For the purpose of this temporary placement, admission as a legal practitioner by the Supreme Court, and removal of condition 2 from your practicing certificate, is preferred but not essential.

- All roles in the Office of the Children's Guardian are required to have a current WWCC clearance.
