The Opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Conflicts Solicitor to join our New Business Intake Team in Sydney in a parental leave max-term contract (14 months).
The Conflicts Team is responsible for advising the Firm globally on a variety of regulatory compliance issues including conflicts of interest financial crime, and sanctions.
We play a key role in the development and shaping of Firm strategy globally by liaising with Sector Lead Partners, Regional / Global Heads of Practice and Business Development to ensure that any new instructions comply with our professional obligations under the applicable Solicitors Conduct Rules and are a commercial fit for the firm.
Some key responsibilities will include :
- providing tailored advice, support, and analysis on compliance topics related to conflicts of interest and new business / client acceptance;
- advising on the application of relevant legislation, regulations, and policies, including anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing legislation, anti-bribery and corruption measures and prevention of tax evasion;
- collaborating with business development teams to strategically select new clients, ensuring compliance with professional conduct rules and managing complex global conflicts of interest;
- supervising and support team members, coordinate workflow, and provide training to new joiners, associates, and partners on conflicts and information barrier procedures;
- overseeing trade securities dealing requests, contribute to the design and testing of new software, and lead strategic projects to enhance business acceptance processes.
To be successful in this role, you will have :
admitted to practice as a Solicitor in Australia or another relevant jurisdiction;3+ years' post admission experience specialising in conflicts of interest at a law firm in Australia or another relevant jurisdiction;excellent research, analytical skills with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail;good commercial awareness;ability to work autonomously on complex conflicts and regulatory issues and prioritise multiple tasks simultaneously and under pressure;effective verbal, written and face to face communication skills with a variety of staff including senior partners and legal assistants.What you can expect from us :
