The role

The role of the Clinical Trials Assistant (CTA) is as a participant facing representative of the Australian Epilepsy Project (AEP) central team, within the Florey. https : / / www.epilepsyproject.org.au /

The CTA is primarily responsible for the collection and management of cognitive / psychological data in the AEP, completing multiple assessments per week (epilepsy and control participants). They would also complete the necessary screening and recruitment procedures, telephone / videoconference interviews and review participant questionnaires and diaries throughout participants’ 24-month follow-up period. They would also be responsible for maintaining the study database.

Alongside the AEP Central Clinical Trials team, the CTA will assist in the accurate implementation of the protocol to ensure complete data sets are acquired for each participant.

This role will assist in building rapport with other local clinical trials hubs for optimal experience for participants in the study.

Key Responsibilities

The candidate will be responsible for :

  • Administer and score a range of standardised cognitive / psychological tests and questionnaires
  • Complete 6+ neuropsychological assessments of both epilepsy and control participants, per week

  • Administer research quality, standardised cognitive assessment measures via telehealth
  • Prepare participants for task-fMRI scanning (e.g. training on in-scanner tasks)
  • Work with the AEP Clinical Trials team to coordinate AEP participant referrals including :
  • Eligibility screening

  • Consenting
  • MRI safety and booking across multiple MRI locations around Aus
  • Distribution of participant questionnaires and seizure diaries
  • Assist with coordination of research activities in line with AEP study protocol, standard operation procedures and ICH-GCP guidelines
  • Enter and manage participant data in the REDCap database
  • Collect confidential participant medical records from external healthcare providers
  • Complete baseline medical interviews (epilepsy participants and healthy controls)
  • Maintain contact with participants in order to complete follow up interviews, questionnaires, and seizure diaries at 6-, 12- and 24-month time points
  • Assist with genetic sample collection, shipping and receipt
  • Develop the role by using evidence-based practice and continuously improving through experience and ongoing training
  • Provide research and administrative support for the AEP research team and cognition laboratory
  • Support the collective vision and mission of the Florey through

  • Fostering and supporting innovation within the team and broader Institute teams
  • Excellence in practice driven by a focus on equity, diversity and inclusivity

    The role attracts an annual salary range of $75,139 - $86,313 (Professional Staff Level 5.1-5.8), commensurate with experience.

    About you :

    The successful candidate will have :

  • Bachelor Degree in Psychology, or Health-related field, or equivalent experience
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in MS office suite and database management
  • Experience with cognitive / psychological test administration
  • Previous participant-facing research experience
  • Experience with the below is desirable, but not essential :

  • ICH-GCP qualification
  • Experience delivering telehealth (telephone, videoconference), especially telehealth cognitive assessments
  • Experience with research databases such as REDCap will be highly regarded
  • Experience in the conduct of clinical trials would be an advantage to the applicant
  • Knowledge or experience of epilepsy care or research
