The Role
The EL 1 Threat and Context Team Lead is responsible for leading the TACT capability, which provides a joint common experimental environment, scenario development and adversary replication for Joint Defence Experimentation. This ensures strategy-led and threat-informed consistency in Defence experimentation, supporting the delivery of evidence-based analysis for force design and integration. They will lead a small team to deliver outcomes for the Joint Experimentation Directorate (JED) and will contribute to broader events under the Adaptive Adversary Team (AAT) Framework.

This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines / classifications that are critical to Defence capability. About our Team
TACT is responsible for the development and delivery of the Threat and Context capability at JED - through Force Integration Division and the Joint Warfare Development Branch, JED supports the Vice Chief of the Defence Force and other sponsors in delivering the annual program of Defence experimentation events. The TACT ensure strategic alignment and coherence across Defence experimentation by designing, managing, and delivering realistic, evidence-based scenarios and vignettes. The TACT supports war gaming and other experimental activities by providing adversary modelling, red teaming, and contextual inputs that reflect current and future operational environments.
The team fosters collaboration across Defence and external agencies, ensuring integration with broader capability development efforts. Through leadership, innovation, and governance, the TACT enhances the quality and relevance of experimentation outputs, contributing directly to the evolution of joint warfighting concepts and future force design. TACT is critical in maintaining a robust, adaptable, and strategically aligned experimentation environment that supports Defence’s preparedness and capability development objectives.
