537944 - Patient Services Officer - Emergency Department
Calvary Mater Newcastle Permanent Part-Time (24hpw) and Casual Roles available. Salary Classification : Administration Officer Level 3, Year 1-2. Remuneration : $34.46 to $35.54 per hour + superannuation + salary packaging options.
The Role
The Patient Services Officer is responsible for delivering courteous, effective, and efficient patient support services. Duties include retrieving and managing medical records, generating i.PM reports, updating electronic whiteboard information, coordinating patient transport bookings, handling telephone inquiries, and providing general clerical support to the clinical team as required.
- Provide accurate, timely clerical support for the Clinical Nursing Unit Manager and clinical team (filing, typing, photocopying, receipt / redirection of telephone messages, and retrieval of patient records, test results, etc.).
- Maintain stationery stock levels by ordering on a regular weekly basis and ensure supplies such as prescription pads, pathology request forms, X-Ray request forms, and other stationery are available at staff stations.
- Retrieve laboratory results, medical records, X-rays, and obtain discharge summaries from other hospitals as requested.
- Complete maintenance requests as directed by the Clinical Nurse Unit Manager.
- Coordinate services from other departments / units as requested (e.g., paging medical officers, ECG, mobile x-ray, blood gas, maintenance, courier).
- Organise transport for patients by ambulance, hire car, or taxi as requested.
- Answer enquiries about patient location within the department; redirect calls, take and record messages, and escalate clinical matters to a medical or nursing colleague as needed.
- Page services to the department as required.

Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology.Demonstrated communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills with an excellent telephone manner.Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team during periods of high demand.Experience with i.PM and medical record management.Commitment to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.Benefits
