About the Role

Join the Museum of Lands, Mapping and Surveying as a volunteer and help preserve Queensland’s cartographic history. Established in 1982, the museum holds a rich collection of maps, instruments, photographs, diaries, and artworks. You will support the Senior Curator in managing and caring for this unique collection.

Responsibilities

• Support re-housing of artifacts and construct custom nesting solutions to protect their integrity.
• Participate in cleaning objects following conservation best practices.
• Implement preventive conservation measures to prevent deterioration.
• Assist in documenting new acquisitions with accurate records.
• Perform other duties as required with a flexible and proactive approach.

Candidate Profile

We seek someone passionate about history and heritage, with excellent communication skills. A background or current studies in Museology, Cultural Materials Conservation, or related fields is highly regarded but not mandatory.

Additional Information

This is a volunteer position with applications remaining current for 12 months. It offers a hands-on opportunity to contribute to the preservation of Queensland’s cultural heritage.
