About The Role
The Director, Nursing, Mental Health is responsible for the governance of clinical practice and patient care, leadership and management of the Nursing Service to ensure the delivery of high quality patient and family centred care. The position is responsible for the planning and development needs of the nursing service from a financial, organisational, physical and human resource perspective and participates in all aspects of hospital and service planning as part of the executive team. The role will provide strategic leadership for the nursing profession across Mental Health Services and operationally manage nursing services across inpatient units and Emergency Departments. The Mental Health Service is heading into a period of transformation and reform. The Director, Nursing has a significant role in leading organisational change in workforce models, service delivery, and quality and safety to deliver high performing teams in a complex health service.
The Director, Nursing reports to the General Manager for Mental Health Services and forms part of the Senior Leadership Team.
About The Mental Health Service
The Mental Health Service in Sydney Local Health District is a district wide service with an annual operating budget of over $170M and employs over 1,000 full time equivalent staff across three Emergency Departments, three large inpatient facilities (Concord Centre for Mental Health, Professor Marie Bashir Centre, Thomas Walker Hospital) and five community health centres. The nursing workforce accounts for over 500 full time equivalent staff. The Mental Health Service also hosts several statewide services, including eating disorders; perinatal infant mental health and intellectual disability and has established partnerships and agreements with government and non-government organisations.
