Counsellor position at Illawarra Mercury. Permanent / continuing, part-time appointment (28 hours per week).
Salary : Level 6 / 7 : $92,681 - $114,764 pro rata + 17% superannuation
Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group counselling services to students at the University of Wollongong (UOW), aligning with the University's strategic goals to enhance the student experience.
- Utilise trauma-informed, strengths-based approaches; employ brief intervention techniques to support student retention, engagement, and success.
- Coordinate and deliver critical incident support, wellbeing services, welfare information, and referrals across a wide network of internal services at UOW and external expert services.
- Provide short-term counselling, mental health interventions, and crisis management; include assessment, referral, support planning, and follow-up.
- Contribute to systemic approaches to student wellbeing by developing preventative programs, offering training, enhancing knowledge and communities, and driving service improvements.
- Work within relevant legislative and policy frameworks to effectively assist students.

Requirements and Qualifications
Strong understanding of complex legislative and policy frameworks related to student wellbeing and mental health.Experience with trauma-informed care and strengths-based practice; ability to work in a team delivering critical incident support and welfare services.Ability to develop and deliver preventive programs and training to enhance service delivery.Eligibility to work in Australia (visa sponsorship not available).Position Details
