Overview

Counsellor position at Illawarra Mercury. Permanent / continuing, part-time appointment (28 hours per week).

Salary : Level 6 / 7 : $92,681 - $114,764 pro rata + 17% superannuation

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and group counselling services to students at the University of Wollongong (UOW), aligning with the University's strategic goals to enhance the student experience.
• Utilise trauma-informed, strengths-based approaches; employ brief intervention techniques to support student retention, engagement, and success.
• Coordinate and deliver critical incident support, wellbeing services, welfare information, and referrals across a wide network of internal services at UOW and external expert services.
• Provide short-term counselling, mental health interventions, and crisis management; include assessment, referral, support planning, and follow-up.
• Contribute to systemic approaches to student wellbeing by developing preventative programs, offering training, enhancing knowledge and communities, and driving service improvements.
• Work within relevant legislative and policy frameworks to effectively assist students.
