About the role Due to a period of parental leave, an opportunity has arisen in our Sydney office for an experienced full-time Legal Secretary to join our General Insurance team on a fixed term contract (approx. 14 months). The team primarily focus on the defence of claims being litigated in multiple Australian jurisdictions arising from all types of asbestos, silica and other dust exposures, NSW and Victorian public liability claims and insurance coverage questions. This position will see you supporting a Partner and other lawyers, assisted by a Junior Legal Secretary.
Each day will be different, but you can expect some of your regular responsibilities to include :
Opening of new matters and closing and archiving of completed mattersConducting conflict searchesSolicitor Diary managementTelephone calls with clients, Courts / Tribunals, other law firms, government departments (Centrelink and Medicare) and third parties (e.g. medical practices, medico-legal companies etc.)Arranging medical appointmentsCreating medical schedules and schedules of authoritiesDrafting routine correspondenceEditing and emailing correspondencePreparation and filing of court documents, including subpoenas, tender bundles etc. across multiple Australian jurisdictions and arranging serviceElectronic filing and setting up sub-folders for electronic files - experience with iManage advantageousMonthly billing, including invoicing and preparation of bills. Previous experience with Aderant / Expert Billing will be highly regardedCompiling monthly client reportsAbout you To be successful in this role, you will ideally have a minimum of 2-3 years' administrative or secretarial experience gained in a law firm or other professional services environment.
