Join to apply for the First Nations Engagement Lead role at Anglicare Southern Queensland First Nations Engagement Lead - Identified Position

Anglicare Southern Queensland (Anglicare) has grown to be one of Queensland's most trusted providers of 'all of life services' across home and residential aged care, youth support, disability, homelessness, foster care and family. Today we have over 3,000 dedicated and experienced staff, supported by more than 400 generous volunteers, who are there every day for Queenslanders.

The Role

We are currently seeking to hire a First Nations Engagement Lead in a full-time permanent capacity to join our People & Culture team.

The First Nations Engagement Lead is responsible for driving the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of initiatives, strategies, and programs aligned with Anglicare's Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) Strategy, Reconciliation Action Plan and the Cultural Capability and Safety Framework.

The First Nations Engagement Lead provides strategic leadership to enhance cultural competence and safety through cultural audits and meaningful partnerships. The role will be responsible for consulting with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff and strengthening strategic partnerships with external Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations. This role will also foster a workplace that values cultural knowledge, lived experiences, and diversity while positioning Anglicare as an employer of choice for First Nations people.

This is an identified role and Anglicare considers that being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement for this position under Section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld).

Some of the duties involved in this role include, but are not limited to : Lead the design, development, and implementation of the First Nations Cultural Capability and Safety Framework to enhance cultural safety within Anglicare.Review and provide guidance on regular cultural audits to support the business in evaluating cultural safety and competence.Provide education and resources to build cultural awareness and capability across the workforce.Ensure cultural competency and practice is integrated into and reflected across Anglicare's policies and compliance frameworks.Facilitate meaningful consultation processes with First Nations people ensuring community voices are heard and respected.Support and guide the planning and delivery of events to promote cultural respect, recognition, and effective community engagement. What you will bring to the Role Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, with deep cultural knowledge and an understanding of contemporary issues affecting First Nations communities.Demonstrated ability to embed First Nations knowledge into work practices, driving transformation and enhancing cultural capability.Knowledge of, and connection to community networks, peak bodies, business linkages and resources relevant to the sector.Tertiary qualifications in social work, community services, human resources, or a related discipline are highly desirable but not essential. We strongly value lived experience, cultural knowledge, and community connection, which are equally important in this role.Successful candidates will also be required to provide a National Police Check and Drivers Licence during onboarding.

Cultural Load Acknowledgement We recognise that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff are often called upon to provide cultural guidance and support beyond the scope of their roles. At Anglicare, we deeply value the cultural knowledge and influence that our First Nations colleagues bring. We do not expect or support the burden of cultural load being carried by individual staff. Instead, we are committed to reducing this load through shared responsibility, appropriate resourcing, and by fostering a culturally safe and respectful working environment for all.

What We Offer

We are committed to creating a culturally safe and empowering environment where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices are heard, respected, and empowered. In this role, you will benefit from :

Cultural Leadership : Lead and influence the implementation of our Reconciliation Action Plan and Cultural Capability and Safety Framework through culturally grounded expertise and lived experience.Strategic Impact : Shape organisational practices and partnerships that strengthen cultural safety and community engagement across all levels of Anglicare.Supportive Environment : A culturally safe workplace that values your identity, knowledge, and contributions, with access to peer support and mentoring.Professional Development : Tailored opportunities for growth in leadership, policy development, and cultural capability, supported by ongoing learning and development programs.Flexibility and Wellbeing : Flexible work arrangements that support your wellbeing, community responsibilities, and work-life balance.Commitment to Reconciliation and Self-Determination : A genuine organisational commitment to walking alongside First Nations peoples, supporting self-determination, and embedding reconciliation in everything we do.How to Apply
