- There are two roles within the Payroll Services Section that manage separate processes with the section._
- The roles encompass governance of the payroll operations and the management of the first contact point for staff that have pay related enquiries. _
- Both roles manage teams to achieve the desired outcomes and provide feedback to the leadership of the section and branch to identify emerging trends and offer solutions to issues identified._
- Who we are
Financial Operations Branch provides shared services for the department, including corporate services such as travel, credit cards, procurement, grants policy, advice and reporting, payroll services, procurement, accounts receivable, debt management and accounts payable. The branch also provides a project management and oversight role for some of the critical projects for the division.
The Payroll Services Section provides a payroll service integrating a range of tasks including conditions of service and payroll processing for the entire employee lifecycle which encompasses commencement, prior service, leave liability, superannuation, leave management, payment of allowances, deductions, salary maintenance, workers compensation, overseas employees, salary packaging, pay run, employee debt management and exits.
The JobsThe duties of the roles include, but are not limited to :
leading teams within the Payroll Services Section undertaking the administration and management of pay and entitlements utilizing the department pay platform (Aurion)team management activities including managing performance via the development of performance plans, co-ordinating and / or delivering staff training and assisting in career development opportunitiesinitiating and managing payroll activities that can include identifying strategic objectives including activities such as :Christmas paysPay Point ProgressionScheduled allowance paymentsEnd of Financial YearDepartmental salary increasescommunicating effectively with clients and stakeholders, handling escalations, preparing complex correspondence and providing accurate and timely advice to clientsmanaging recruitment & staffing activities within the section in conjunction with the Director - Payroll Servicesrepresenting the department at meetings, forums and seminarsmanaging the development of appropriate business processes & process improvementsdrafting and coordinating high quality written materials including briefs, fact sheets, guidelines, user guides, web material, presentations and procedural documentsmanaging stakeholder engagement with business areas which have a direct impact on the section, specifically the Aurion System team, Workplace Relations, Treasury, Accounts Receivable and People Support teamsmanaging and / or delegating, as required, a variety of administrative dutiescompletion of complex payroll processing and / or checkingthe management of legislative requirements involved payroll processing activities.Please notethat this recruitment process will be used to fill two vacancies in the section. The merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may also be used to fill future vacancies in branch where the duties are of a similar nature.What we are looking forKnowledge and experienceExperience in Government payroll operations.Experience in managing a team to deliver on goals and objectives.Knowledge of payroll systems and processes.
