Warnayaka Art and Cultural Aboriginal Corporation is a Warlpiri-owned and governed art and culture centre located in the remote community of Lajamanu, on the northern edge of the Tanami Desert. Established in 1986, the centre plays a vital role in sustaining cultural knowledge and providing meaningful economic opportunities for Warlpiri artists.

Known for its bold and expressive contemporary painting, Warnayaka supports around 20 active artists whose work has been exhibited across Australia and internationally. The centre also manages a growing archive and collection, with a strong commitment to cultural continuity, self-determination and intergenerational learning.

ABOUT THE ROLE This is a rare opportunity to live and work on Warlpiri Country and support a dynamic community of artists.

Warnayaka is seeking an experienced, culturally respectful and community-focused Art and Culture Centre Manager to lead the organisation's next chapter. Reporting to the board of directors, you'll guide the centre's operations, sustainability and strategic growth, supporting Warlpiri artists to thrive in their practice and maintain a strong cultural future.

This diverse and rewarding role includes team leadership, financial management, program coordination, marketing, exhibition development, stakeholder engagement and governance support.

You'll work closely with the Warnayaka board of directors to uphold cultural integrity, expand opportunities for artists, and strengthen the centre's visibility and impact.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING A strong track record leading visual arts, cultural or community-based organisations, ideally in regional or remote settings

At least 3 years' experience working cross-culturally, preferably with Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander communities

Skills in business management, stakeholder engagement and funding development

Sound financial acumen and a commitment to transparency

A respectful, grounded and collaborative leadership style

Relocation allowance to agreed amount, plus annual return travel to $1,500

Six weeks' annual leave with 17.5% leave loading plus 6 days' time in lieu per annum

LOCATION Lajamanu is a remote Warlpiri community on the northern edge of the Tanami Desert, approximately 900 km from Darwin and 580 km south-west of Katherine. The town has a population of around 900 people and offers essential services including a store, school, health clinic and sports facilities.
